Auckland Transport Digital Signage
QMS MEDIA
In 2015 Auckland Transport embarked on one of the largest infrastructure projects in New Zealand's history to expand their existing rail, ferry and bus network. QMS Media is responsible for providing advertising signage across the entire network and engaged CID to develop custom small-format indoor and outdoor digital advertising enclosures.
In March 2017 QMS Media launched their 'Commuter Network' with over 40 digital screens situated at the busiest bus, ferry, and rail terminals with 1.7 million passenger journeys in 28 days. The digital enclosures developed by CID allowed full animation advertising in both indoor and outdoor locations for the first time across the network.

Design Detailing

The enclosures needed to be sleek and elegant, but also robust and durable to withstand the harsh conditions encountered within a public transport network.
CID developed custom aluminium extrusions that formed the backbone of an incredibly rigid frame of over 2.2m high with a footprint of only 125mm deep. This height gave the signs a highly visible presence within the crowded terminals and provided maximum impact for advertisers.
The custom extrusions allowed for side and rear toughened glass infill panels, back-printed Ocean Blue, to create a unique look for Auckland Transport and further enhance their brand identity.
Safety Considerations

With signs to be situated in densely populated public spaces, including underground train stations, public safety was an important consideration for this project.
Working closely with QMS, Auckland Transport personnel, and consulting engineers, CID specified high quality components and materials certified for use in these environments.
After rigorous testing and evaluation by fire safety experts it was deemed that the enclosures designed by CID not only met but exceeded the relevant safety standards.
To date CID has produced over 25 Indoor digital signs and 15 Outdoor digital signs which have been installed across the Auckland Transport Commuter Network.
